Let the Game's Begin!

WELL, last Monday I was so kind as to share with you that the blogger scavenger hunt would start sometime in the coming week.

As I'm sure most of you have figured out... I lied.

Of course I didn't lie on purpose, but lie I did, all the same.

Now with that off my chest, it brings me great pleasure to announce (no lies this time) that A Blogger Scavenger Hunt starts now.

That's right, if you're reading this, A Blogger Scavenger Hunt has begun!

It's 'bout time now isn't it?

**************************************

Alright, here's the list of participants. If I've missed anyone please let me know ASAP.

* Girl of Many Colors
* Paris
* Bookworm4God
* God's Soldier
* FrizzyDragon49
* ChristsButterfly

If you would still like to sign up it's not to late! Contact me as soon as possible either via comment on this post or via e-mail (twinforgod@comcast.net).

Continue telling your friends, the more the merrier!

Here's a list of those who have been entered into the drawing I promised. Remember, anyone who posts on their blog about this contest or puts the button on their sidebar (or both!) will be entered into a drawing to win one of the items in the prize pool. The drawing will not take place until after A Blogger Scavenger Hunt ends, so if you have done one of the above things (and are not yet on the list), or do one of them, just leave a comment and let me know!

* Paris- Posted on her blog
* Bookworm4God- Posted on her blog and posted the button on her sidebar
* HorseLuver- Posted the button on her sidebar
* Lauren Ann- Posted on her blog
* FrizzyDragon49- Posted on her blog and posted the button on her sidebar
* Zoe- Posted on her blog

Now for a quick refresher of some of the general facts/requirements for A Blogger Scavenger Hunt.

1. You must have a blog. I'm sorry for those of you who don't, but there is just no getting around this one. A blog is a requirement for this contest.

2. Originally I told you that you had to complete all 10 of the things on the list of "activities". But I've changed my mind. Now the requirement is 5 things (though, the more you do the more points you're likely to receive).

3. Once you've completed all of the things on the list, or run out of time to do anymore, you compile all of your "evidence" and post it on your blog. Now, this is where a very important part of this contest comes in creativity. Trust me, that's a huge thing, I'll award a lot of points when it comes to that.

4. The person who receives the most points wins. Simple as that. And don't worry, I'll go over every little thing the winner did to earn their points, I'll outline it all for you, just to be fair.

5. Now, I don't want any of you guys to rush through this, since creativity is the thing that I'm looking for the most here... but the first, second, and third persons to finish everything on the list (which is not a requirement, remember) will get an extra 15, 10, or 5 points (depending on which one they are and on the quality of their post).

6. In general the way to earn points is this, for every item on the list that you complete to my satisfaction you will receive at least 5 points. But those who go above and beyond, or are super de duper creative, have the chance of earning even more per completed item.

7. As for prizes. The 1st place winner will receive 5 items of their choice from the prize pool and will get first prize pick, the person in 2nd place will receive 3 items of their choice and will get second prize pick, the 3rd place winner will receive 1 item.

I think I covered the basics there. If you have any questions about anything just ask. Send me an e-mail message (twinforgod@comcast.net) or leave me a comment. Either way I'll get back to you.

**************************************

Remember how I made a few changes in the list for those of you who wanted other options? Well, here is the new list of activities for A Blogger Scavenger Hunt, complete with the extra options. Keep in mind, you are only required to complete 5 things on the list, though you can complete all 10 (also, you only do one activity for each number, either the alternant or the original, not both).

New Activity List For A Blogger Scavenger Hunt:

1) A picture of a child/person/pet doing something that you didn’t expect them to do or that they weren’t supposed to be doing- something random that you DID NOT plan or stage. Something messy, crazy, wacky, and possibly even dangerous. A picture of one of those moments that you freak out about initially, but that you laugh about later. (SIDE NOTE: I'm not going to change this one because I think it's easy enough. I will make one thing clear though, this doesn't have to be new. Like, if you already have a photo that fits this description and would like to use it feel free, you don't have to take a new one.)

2) The story behind picture # 1. (SIDE NOTE: Not going to change this one either, you don't have to write a LONG story if you don't want to, I just want to know what was happening in your photo.)

3) A book of some kind that is OVER 600 pages long. More literally a PICTURE or VIDEO that YOU took of a book this long. (SIDE NOTE: I'm not changing this one either, it's honestly not hard to find I book of this length. Number one, the video part is completely optional, I just want some kind of proof that you actually found the book.)

4) A brief synopsis of the above 600 word or more book. (SIDE NOTE: Again, I'm not changing this. You don't have to read the book. Just read the back if you want. I just want to know what it's about. Not hard, I promise.)

5) The link to a specific post on a blog where your name/blog is mentioned. THIS BLOG CAN NOT BE YOUR OWN. (SIDE NOTE: Again, I'm not changing this. It's not hard at all. I mean, I've mentioned a bunch of you guys (though I'd prefer you use someone besides me, you can use me if you have to) and I'm sure you all have friends who wouldn't mind mentioning you for the sake of this contest. Not hard, really.)

6) The highest stack of… something. Well, this one is EXTREMELY general. All you have to do is make a stack of SOMETHING (that’s right anything you want) as high as you can (because you want yours to be higher than ANY OTHER CONTESTANTS). Video and/or picture proof is necessary. The more proof you have, the easy it’ll be to judge who wins the contest of height. (SIDE NOTE: You do not have to have a video, I just need proof. And I do admit that this one can be a bit tedious, so, I'll offer a compromise for those of you who want it.)

Alternant 6) A picture that you've taken in the past or that you found somewhere (like google) of the highest stack of something. (SIDE NOTE: Just like the original, only now, you don't have to do the work. :D)

7) A picture of any ITEM that has been mentioned in this blog AT LEAST twice. You must post a picture that YOU TOOK of the item, preferably with you in it. You must also post links to the posts on this blog that the item was mentioned in. (SIDE NOTE: Though I refuse to think this is hard at all, since it's not, I will offer you a compromise.)

Alternant 7) A picture of any item I've ever mentioned on this blog. You don't have to be the one to have taken the picture. (SIDE NOTE: See, this is getting easier.)

8) A picture of yourself that mimics a picture that I have posted of myself on this blog. YOU can post a PICTURE that MIMICS ANY picture of ME that I have posted ANYWHERE on THIS BLOG. (SIDE NOTE: Though I know I should, I refuse to change this. It's not that hard. There are tons of pictures that are easily mimicked, and this one is just too much fun! I will change one thing though, it doesn't have to be a picture of me, it can be any picture I've posted no matter who it's of.)

9) Post the links to THREE other blogs that you read and enjoy. Tell us a little bit about them and WHY you enjoy them. (SIDE NOTE: This is in no way hard. You don't have to give me a detailed paper on each of them, just tell me in a few sentences why you like them.)

10) Compare me and you with the following questions. You must find all the answers to the questions about me by yourself, somewhere on my blog. When you post fill out the answers for ME and YOU. (Tip for completion: You are not REQUIRED to fill out the answers for yourself, only for ME. You just receive extra points for COMPARING us.)
· Name?
· Age?
· Number of siblings?
· Any pets?
· What state do I live in?
· What are a few of my passions in life?
· What is ONE fun fact about me? (one fact is required, any extra facts that you list will count toward more points.)
(SIDE NOTE: Don't worry, I'm offering a compromise on this one...)

Alternant 10) List one random fact about me that also describes yourself. (SIDE NOTE: Easier or harder? :P)

One more thing I want to add. You are not required to be in any of the pictures, I know some people aren't allowed to post pictures of themselves on their blogs and I completely respect that. BUT if you can, I would like it if you were in at least some of the photos.

One last thing. Some of you might be wondering how much time you have. Well, I don't have an official end date yet, but I know for sure (unless all of you finish up super quick) that this contest will still be in full swing at the end of the month, probably longer.

It all depends on how you guys do. So get going!

Oh, and if you want to be really nice, post updates on how you're doing in the contest on your blogs, or send me a message/comment. I want to know how it's going!

Quick Update on A Blogger Scavenger Hunt

Alright, I've hard from tons of you about how you can't join in the fun of this scavenger hunt because of how much time it would take you to even do five (the required minimum) of the things on the list. So, I've decided to offer a few "alternant" choices for some of the activities, for those of you who were having a hard time with, well, time.

(Before I show you the "new" list I want to ask one thing. I wasn't sure which activities were the most time-consuming for all of you, so if you want to leave me a comment and let me know which ones you would like an alternant choice for that would be great. I might be able to make a few more changes.)

For more information on A Blogger Scavenger Hunt and how you can join check out the following links.

Update: A Blogger Scavenger Hunt

It's about time I got around to posting an update...

Well, I don't know about the rest of you (actually I do know about some of you, and that's one of the many reasons for this post, but that's beside the point) but I'm just slightly disappointed in how this contest is turning out so far... and it hasn't even started yet! But I'm not going to let myself be discouraged. There are a few of you who are just as hyped about this Blogger Scavenger Hunt as I was when I first came up with the idea, so we're going to keep on truckin' with it (and I promise my next contest will be tons easier, actually, I'm going to go ahead and promise you guys a giveaway next time, something simple so you don't have to do anything at all, oh and to make it even better, everyone who participates in the Blogger Scavenger Hunt will get an extra chance in the giveaway, how's that?).

Originally we were going for at least 15 participants before starting.

Then in desperation we lowered it to at least 10 participants.

So far, we have 6.

Take a look at those numbers. Catching my "slightly disappointed" drift? It would really bum me to have to lower the number for the second time, but one has to do what she has to do. So, if I don't have at least 10 participants by March 1st I'm going to lower the number of participants needed before we start... again.

Here's the official list of participants so far.

* Girl of Many Colors
* Paris
* Bookworm4God
* God's Soldier
* FrizzyDragon49
* ChristsButterfly

If you thought you had signed up and your name is not on the above list please leave a comment on this post or e-mail me (twinforgod@comcast.net). If you would like to sign up (sign ups are open now and will stay open even after the scavenger hunt begins, and will not close until a few days before it ends) please leave a comment on this post and/or on my original post.

Oh yeah, before moving on a want to make one comment. All of the participants we have so far are teens. Which is all well and good in my book, but come on all the adults out there who read this blog. I was really hoping to hear something from you guys too. Just wanted to say that...

Now, I also told you guys that whoever advertised for this Blogger Scavenger Hunt on their blog (by posting about it and/or putting the button on their sidebar) would be entered into a drawing to win a free book. Here is the list so far of those of you who have.

* Paris- Posted on her blog
* Bookworm4God- Posted on her blog and posted the button on her sidebar
* HorseLuver- Posted the button on her sidebar
* Lauren Ann- Posted on her blog

I think there were more of you who either posted and/or put the button on your sidebar. If you did and you are not on the above list please comment here and/or return to this post and leave a comment there. You still have time to advertise! Go ahead and post on your blog and/or put the button on your sidebar, then leave me a comment to let me know what you did. Return to this post for more information.

When I first posted about the Blogger Scavenger Hunt, I told you all the contest would end on March 15th and that your last chance to sign up would be on March 12th. But that was before I knew how difficult it would be to get participants. So don't start stressin' about the time limit, I'm not going to set a deadline for completion until after the contest starts, and after I see how hard/easy it is for you guys to get this done.

Now I want to go ahead and refresh your memories on some of the must have/must dos/and general facts for this scavenger hunt.

Trust me, that's a huge thing, I'll award a lot of points for that right there.

Also, if you haven't read it already check out this post for more information.

Alright, I'm going to post the list of "activities" for the scavenger hunt below.

(Tip for completion: Carry a camera at ALL times, no matter WHAT.)

2) The story behind picture # 1. (Tip for completion: Write it down AS SOON as it happens, make sure you record all of the hilarious and insane details, edit later.)

3) A book of some kind that is OVER 600 pages long. More literally a PICTURE or VIDEO that YOU took of a book this long. (Tip for completion: Scour your bookshelves, the library, the bookstore. In all honesty, 600 pages may sound like a massive book but it really isn’t, it’s relatively easy to find something like this. If you want your evidence to be more believable POSE in the picture with the book, it might help with your points.)

4) A brief synopsis of the above 600 word or more book. (Tip for completion: Yes this means you must either READ the WHOLE book or at least familiarize yourself with it in some way. Post a picture of yourself READING the book, or writing/typing with the book at hand for EXTRA points.)

5) The link to a specific post on a blog where your name/blog is mentioned. THIS BLOG CAN NOT BE YOUR OWN. (Tip for completion: Dig up achieves in your friends blogs from years ago where you were mentioned, or beg your friends to post about you, tell them about this contest while you’re at it!)

(Tip for completion: Stack it high! You never know what someone else could be doing… Also, take a video AND a few pictures. The more evidence the better!)

7) A picture of any ITEM that has been mentioned in this blog AT LEAST twice. You must post a picture that YOU TOOK of the item, preferably with YOU IN IT. You must also post links to the posts on this blog that the item was mentioned in. (Tip for completion: Come on guys ANY item. That’s not hard AT ALL. Just make sure you post clear EVIDENCE. The easier it is for me to prove your story, the more points you are likely to receive.)

8) A picture of yourself that mimics a picture that I have posted of myself on this blog. YOU can post a PICTURE that MIMICS ANY picture of ME that I have posted ANYWHERE on THIS BLOG. (Tip for completion: Be creative! I’ve posted lots of pictures.)

9) Post the links to THREE other blogs that you read and enjoy. Tell us a little bit about them and WHY you enjoy them. (Tip for completion: Choose blogs that you think are worthy reads. YOU CAN NOT USE MY BLOG AS ONE OF YOUR THREE.)

Like before, if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

Okay, I really think I've covered everything that's come up over the past couple weeks about this contest. If I haven't please let me know what else needs to be said! Thanks. :)

I'll leave you all with the a peek at the prize pool, since I know that's what really interests you anyway...

The Incredible Hulk

Well, so far this Scavenger Hunt is not going exactly as I planned. We only have three participants and we need fifteen before we can start.

Those numbers are not looking good.

A lot of you expressed interest in joining, but said you would be to busy.

So I propose a compromise.

Instead of ALL 10 things on the Scavenger Hunt list being required, I'm going to say only 5 items MUST be completed. The more you do the more points, but only 5 items are required.

I hope that lightens the load, and opens up more opportunities for some of you to join.

The next thing I want to propose, to make this a bit simpler is this. Now, instead of needing fifteen participants to begin, we only need ten.

Last but not least, I want to offer you guys a little encouragement to post about this contest on your blogs, and to add "The Blogger Scavenger Hunt" button to your sidebar.

Everyone who either posts about this on their blog or adds the button to their sidebar will get their name entered into a drawing for the chance to win their choice of one of the books in the prize pool. And if you do BOTH (write a post about the scavenger hunt and add the button to your sidebar) you'll get your name entered twice.

So there you go! I hope that is helpful to some of you who had wanted to join but didn't have the time.

Other than those minor changes all of the other rules are the same. I'll post a list of the participants soon, with links to their blogs. If you have already posted about the scavenger hunt or added the button to your sidebar (or both!) please leave a comment on this post letting me know, so I can enter you for the drawing which will take place after the contest is over.

If you have any other questions go ahead and ask away! To be entered into the contest continue to leave comments on the original post.

CLICK HERE for the complete contest rules, etc.

I hope I covered everything. If not, just ask away! I read all comments and e-mail messages (twinforgod@comcast.net). Hearing from all of my readers about ANYTHING just brightens my day, and I'll do my best to reply to everyone (and I WILL answer all questions, contest related or otherwise, either in a personal message directed toward you, or a blog post).

A Blogger Scavenger Hunt

UPDATE!

ANOTHER EXTREMELY IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Another Update

UPDATE: You can now grab the code for the "a Blogger Scavenger Hunt" picture off of my sidebar. Thanks so much for spreading the word! :)

I’ve decided to host another contest at long last! This one is going to be a bit different than before though. It’s going to be longer, more challenging, tons of fun, and much more rewarding.

We are going to have a Blogger Scavenger Hunt of sorts. It’s not exactly a scavenger hunt, and it’s not restricted to users of blogger (but you must have a blog).

In this game I’m going to give you a list of things you must do/find (which we will go over in a moment). When you have completed everything on the list you compile all of your evidence into a post on your blog and alert me. For every item on the list that you have completed to my satisfaction you will receive at least 5 points. Those who go above and beyond the requirements have a chance of receiving more than 5 points per item.

How you present your evidence (how the post is written, put together, etc) and how you gather it in the first place is (for the most part) up to you. Be creative! I will give you a certain amount of points for overall post and evidence presentation, so be crafty. ;)

This is not a race (though there is a deadline), and I don’t want you guys to be in too big of a rush (remember that CREATIVITY thing), BUT the first person to finish and post will (DEPENDING ON THE QUALITY OF THEIR POST, if your quality is terrible I might make you redo your presentation, or at least award you LESS points) receive an extra 15 points. The second person an extra 10 (again, so long as their quality is good) and the third an extra 5. This may or may not be something you want to aim for. You can earn at least this many extra points and MORE with CREATIVITY!

Whoever ends up with the most points at the end of the contest will be the winner. The 1st place winner will receive 5 items of THEIR CHOICE from the prize pool (which we will review in a moment) and will get first prize pick, the person in 2nd place will receive 3 items of their choice and will get second prize pick, the 3rd place winner will receive 1 item.

This contest will begin AS SOON AS WE HAVE AT LEAST 15 participants. It will last until March 15th. You may enter at any time from now until March 12th and must have your evidence posted and have alerted me (via e-mail or blog comment) by midnight on the 15th to receive your points. The winner will be announced sometime after the 15th (when announcing the winner I will review their points and how they earned them publically, just to be fair to everyone). In order to enter all you need to do is post about the contest on your blog and leave a comment here with a link to your post. Feel free to post the "A Blogger Scavenger Hunt" picture on your sidebar, or in your post. (If you want the code for your sidebar, grab it off my sidebar.)

Make sure you tell your friends about this contest! The contest WILL NOT start until we have AT LEAST 15 participants, so let people know.

Below is the list of “activities” you must complete to earn points. Study every item on the list (there are 10) carefully before beginning, and make sure you ask questions if you’re confused about anything.

6) The highest stack of… something. Well, this one is EXTREMLY general. All you have to do is make a stack of SOMETHING (that’s right anything you want) as high as you can (because you want yours to be higher than ANY OTHER CONTESTENTS). Video and/or picture proof is necessary. The more proof you have, the easy it’ll be to judge who wins the contest of height.

Now it’s time to review the Prize Pool. Remember, the 1st place winner will receive their choice of five items from the following list, the 2nd place winner will receive their choice of three items, and the 3rd place winner will receive their choice of one item. (All of these books are either new, or like-new, they’re all fiction and range in age appropriateness from juvenile to adult depending on the book… and yes, they are all books. What else did you expect from me? lol :D)

· Dana’s Valley by Janette Oke and Laurel Oke Logan

· Enoch by Alton Gansky

· Isolation by Travis Thrasher

· Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix

· True Believer by Nicholas Sparks

· In the Shadow of Lions by Ginger Garrett

· Candy Bombers by Robert Elmer

· A Friend At Midnight by Caroline B. Cooney

· Beyond Reach by Melody Carlson

· Gatekeepers by Robert Liparulo

· The Missing by Thomas Eidson

· Shortcuts by Sigmund Brouwer

· Beyond the Reflection’s Edge by Bryan Davis

Well there you go! You now have all of the juicy details. So run away and tell your friends. It would so awesome if we could get a large turnout for this contest. Every participant gets a few minutes of fame on my blog, which may not seem like much, but if you’re super creative with your posts you might gain a few more readers. If you want to be really nice Blogger Scavenger Hunt contestants, why don’t you head on over to the other participants’ blogs (once I post the official list of course) and leave a comment or two? I think showing good sportsmanship might brighten someone’s day, and that’s worth a little bit of your time. Don’t you think?

Now, get postin’, and commentin’! My goal is to start this contest BY next Monday (yes, I’m aiming high). So you’d better get a move on. :D

MANGYCAT!
WITH HER ENTRY "THE GIRL WHO BREATHED IN BOOKS".

With her entry "A Mind-Blowing Book".

Third place is awarded to...

Everyone else did such a wonderful job as well! Check back again soon for more chances to win Christian books!

MangyCat, please send me your contact information and I'll get your prize in the mail.

Thanks again everyone!

Well it looks like the poll is all tied up! I guess most people want me to post "something lighthearted about your day to day life" or to "post something with LOTS of fun pictures". Philosophizing came in for a close third though! Followed by contests. But what I want to know is this, who voted "other"? If it was you please leave me a comment and let me know what you're thinking! Thanks so much everyone!

I'm sure you've all noticed my new poll. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VOTE! It really takes no time at all. Just vote and tell me if you read my blog... or not. That's it, plain and simple.

Love you guys!

UPDATE

Alright everyone... I'm out of town so this will most likely be my only post for about a week. If I get some more computer time I might try to post another update sooner. Anyway, I want to remind all of my faithful readers (who am I kidding?) that there are a few things I would be so thrilled if you would do.

Number one- PLEASE VOTE IN THE POLL!!! I seriously would like to know if anyone even reads this blog ever. If you are reading this now, please vote. Also, please pick your top two choices. Not just one people. TWO.

Number two- Enter the below contest. Please. I need more participants! If I don't get any more I'll have to cancel the contest and that wont be fair to those who have already entered. I mean come on, it's quick, easy, and you get an awesome prize if you win!

Well that's all I can think of for now. I'll post again soon... and look forward to reading all of the wonderful comments and votes I hope to find upon my return.

Contest- Gone With the Wind

Update- Please vote in my new poll! I really want to know what everyone thinks... and if anyone even reads this blog. You can also help out by joining the contest. It's fun and easy... and you might just win a free book! Plus I need at least two more people to join in order for the contest to be official. Don't rush, you have until October 15th for both the contest and the poll. But tell your friends! And don't wait to long... I might lose all hope.... -End Update

Please don't me mad at me for not posting the last "Crazy Summer" yet... I'm working on it. Promise!

Well, in the mean time I've decided to have a little contest.

The prize- Beyond the Reflection's Edge by Bryan Davis

As I've said before I have a A LOT of copies of this book that I really need to sell... So I'm hoping the winner of this contest will read the book, like the book, tell their friends about the book, and encourage everyone they know to buy the book from me... Yes I've just admitted the shameful motive behind this contest. But I'm desperate y'all!

So here's the contest. Take a long look at the picture below.

Now think of a name for it. Something unique, something eye-catching, maybe humorous, maybe complex... I think you get the picture (no pun intended). Just think of a name that you think fits and post a comment on this post. And for those of you who can't post a comment send me an e-mail! twinforgod@comcast.net

The contest starts now and ends October 15th. That should give everyone more than enough time. Please tell your friends! I want this contest to have lots of participants, without at least three I wont pick a winner!

Have fun! (And don't forget to tell your friends about those books... Beyond the Reflection's Edge is a great read, really! I'm selling them at a wonderful price too...) How shameful of me...
